FOR THE LOVE OF LIVE MUSIC, An interview with the Jamming.LIVE Founder

By Eileen Holtzman
It was on a regular weekend stop at a favorite local bar that Jamming.LIVE founder Tracy Mooney had her “lightbulb” moment. She ran into a couple guys who pulled up with equipment in their car, looking for a place to play. Mooney, who admittedly has never met a stranger in her life, struck up a conversation with the pair about their situation. “I asked them how they were going about finding a place to play, and they confessed they really didn’t have any other way than showing up at various places and asking for a gig. My immediate thought was, man, that sucks!”
All the questions started bombarding the lifelong music fan…how would a new band find places to play? How does a venue find a band? How do fans like myself find info on their favorite artists…or discover talent that is about to become a new favorite? Mooney recognized quickly that even using social media and trolling the internet wasn’t sufficient to put together the pieces of the what she deemed a live music experience puzzle, and she was on fire to develop a solution.
Coincidentally, or maybe it was fate, Mooney just happened to have more than 20 years of experience in web and mobile technology, working with Fortune 500 companies across the country. Tech was going to be the answer to the question that plagued her and she got started right away. “It’s not that a lot of local guys weren’t doing a great job working social media,” Mooney explains. “It’s just that connection was only getting them so far. I mean, lots of people can follow their favorites, but you have to be aware of them first.”
"Connecting all those dots, particularly for venue owners looking to book new talent, is exhausting and complicated. We needed to connect those dots."
Mooney spent a lot of time thinking about those guys in the parking lot. How does a new band get a start? Her research indicated there was nothing out there beyond social media and word of mouth to help bands get into clubs and start building their fan base. “And I knew that promotors can’t work with the small guys, so it’s the same Catch 22,” she added. “You can’t get your foot in the door without experience, and you can’t get experience without getting in those first few doors.”
What was born with Jamming.LIVE was something quite different and far more comprehensive than anything else on the music scene. “The key was the music trifecta,” Mooney explains. “You can’t have one without the other, so our goal was to connect artists, venues and fans – but we give them each a stellar set of tools to truly manage what is essentially their small business. Jamming.LIVE is all about giving them business building tools in one easy and affordable platform.” Benefits to venue owners are nearly limitless, with tools to manage bookings, calendars, marketing, promotions and more. “The bands and fans have my heart,” Mooney reveals. “I truly want to give new artists a chance to increase their fan base and get booked in venues. They are living gig to gig and we wanted to give them a platform to be discovered. Venue owners are going to jam on all these tools that will bring new opportunities their way. I understand their business, and the key role they play in the live experience.” she adds.
Selfishly, Mooney admits that most of her ideas for the platform were born out of frustration for trying to find her peeps. “I’m busy all the time, and I was wasting a huge amount of time trolling social media looking for who was playing where. They say necessity is the mother of invention, right!”
So what happens when one of the greatest fans of the local music scene gets to work on a world-class platform designed to capture the entire experience…from who to see to where to go? Magic. Something very magical is happening. “Our band friends are super excited because Jamming.LIVE is going to make their job easier. Our venue owner friends are lining up to use all the features of the site that will not only make their jobs easier but help them expand their business by attracting new customers. As for the fans…well the fans are going to be blown away by the access they will have to follow, share and communicate with their ‘crew’ like never before.”
With a Midwest launch date set for early 2018, the Jamming.LIVE team is working around the clock to reach as many local artists as possible to register for a chance play at the Jamming.LIVE Launch Party. In addition, Jamming.LIVE is offering a free, two month trial of their Premium Membership for artists and venues who register on the site by December 31.

Jamming.LIVE has an undeniable human side that is capturing the attention of music professionals, from band greats to radio jocks, and they are taking notice of the gal who is determined to find a home for everyone who wants to play. So, what made a (ah, huhm) fifty something IT Project Manager care so much about those parking lot dudes? “That’s easy,” she laughs. “When I was 19 my boyfriend was a sound man, so I was exposed to the live music scene and it got in my blood. It’s still my favorite thing to do any night of the week. I want to see and hear what’s new. I’ve expanded my musical tastes to include nearly every genre, from Rock Bands, Blues to crooners, even great DJ’s that know how to work a crowd. I don’t want to sit at home with headphones. I want to be where people are alive, dancing, hanging with friends. Give me a dive bar, a winery, a park, even a backyard party.” Mooney says. “That’s where I want to be and now we can help put a live act in every one of those places on a regular basis.”
A lot of the process has been a trip down memory lane for Mooney and her team. “I enjoy associating the bands I’ve seen with the sights, sounds and people I was with. I used to hang out at Stages, Mississippi Nights on Laclede’s Landing, and Kennedy’s, wow,” she reminisces. “Bands like Big Fun, Boyfriend, London Calling and Nickels…you remember where you were and how you felt. Oh my Gosh, why would you YouTube that if you can go experience it live!”. To those lovers of the live music scene, no truer words were ever spoken.
